PLANTS: Annuals, 3-75 cm tall. LEAVES: basal leaves oblanceolate to spatulate; cauline leaves lanceolate to ovate, somewhat clasping, 3-5 cm long. FLOWERS: in simple or compound umbellate cymes; calyx variable, the lobes equal or not, but not foliaceous, 4-8 mm long, the margins entire, the tube 1-3 mm long; corolla lavender or white, cylindric to funnelform, the lobes 2-7 mm long, the tube 7-12 mm long, the corona hairs not united.
