Annuals, 6-15 cm, glandular-pubescent, pilose, and furfur-aceous. Stems erect and spreading. Leaf blades rounded-rhombic, 7-14 × 6-14 mm, margins entire (faces, at least abaxial, with straight, multicellular hairs 2-3+ mm). Peduncles 4-20 mm. Involucres narrowly cylindric, 7-9 mm. Phyllaries ca. 13, outer persistent, 5, lanceolate, tips erect, inner falling, 8, lance-linear, tips erect. Florets 9-14; corollas yellow, often purplish at tips, ca. 8 mm. Cypselae 4-5 mm; pappi of ca. 150 subequal bristles in 2-4 series, 6-7 mm. 2n = 34. Flowering sporadically following rains. Reddish, alkaline soils; 500-1400 m; Ariz., Nev., Utah.
