Basal leaves linear-oblanceolate to narrowly spatulate, (5-)8-16(-22) × 2-5 mm. Involucres 6-7.5 mm. Florets 4-5 mm. 2n = 18. Variety australis and var. nudata are contiguous to slightly overlapping in geographic range; intermediates have been noted (L. C. Anderson 1970) where they co-occur in northeastern Florida.
