Herbs,
not rhizomatous, not stoloniferous; caudex slender, scaly.
Flowering stems
erect, leafy, 10-35 cm, stipitate-glandular.
Leaves
in basal rosette and cauline, cauline leaves 2-3, smaller distally; stipules present; petiole sparsely to densely stipitate-glandular; blade orbiculate to broadly reniform, 5-9-lobed, sinuses relatively shallow, base cordate, ultimate margins crenate, apex obtuse, surfaces stipitate-glandular; venation palmate.
Inflorescences
spikelike racemes, from axillary buds in rosette, 10-28-flowered, bracteate.
Flowers:
hypanthium adnate to proximal 1/4 of ovary, free from ovary 2.5-4 mm, green, white, or cream; sepals 5, greenish yellow; petals 5, white or cream; nectary tissue not seen; stamens 5, (opposite sepals); filaments subulate; ovary 1/4 inferior, 1-locular, ovaries completely connate; placentation parietal; styles 2; stigmas 2.
Capsules
2-beaked.
Seeds
dark brown, ellipsoid, minutely papillate.
